Jesús Pedro Lorente leads the research group Aragonese Observatory of Art in the Public Sphere. His scholarly work focuses on art history, museology, critical museology, contemporary art, public art, museum institutions and their role within urban and cultural environments.

Professor Lorente is the author of a number of significant scholarly works devoted to the history and development of museums of contemporary art, public art, cultural districts and contemporary approaches to the interpretation of museum space. His latest book in English, Reflections on Critical Museology: Inside and Outside Museums, was published by Routledge in 2022. In 2019, the same publisher released his book Public Art and Museums in Cultural Districts.

An important stage in Professor Lorente’s academic biography was the book Cathedrals of Urban Modernity: The First Museums of Contemporary Art, 1800-1930, published by Ashgate in 1998. This work was based on his PhD dissertation, supervised by Eileen Hooper-Greenhill at the Department of Museum Studies, University of Leicester. It became the precursor to one of his best-known publications, The Museums of Contemporary Art: Notion and Development, which is also available in Spanish, French and Turkish.

Professor Lorente has extensive experience in editorial and expert work within the international academic community. He is a member of the editorial boards of specialised academic journals in the fields of museology, museum studies, art history and cultural studies, including Museum and Society, Museum History Journal, Museology: International Scientific Electronic Journal, MIDAS: Museus e Estudos Interdisciplinares, Culture et Musées, MODOS, ICOFOM Study Series, Journal of International Museum Education, Museo y Territorio, Revista de Museología and Museos.es.

As Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Jesús Pedro Lorente combines deep academic specialisation, international experience in scholarly communication and editorial competence. His professional activity contributes to the development of scholarly dialogue in the fields of art history, museology and the study of cultural institutions.
